How do you really succeed and make sales? In network marketing how does a person build a strong down line? The answer is to do exactly the opposite of what your competition is doing.
Get on MySpace. Go find a couple of network marketers, this isn’t hard just find a business or MLM group, there are tons of them. Send out a few messages and ask them about their business opportunity. Read their emails carefully, replay and sound interested. Print the emails and study them, become very familiar with them. Study how the person writes, what annoys you, the way the emails sound, grammar mistakes, how long the emails are and how long it takes for the person to respond to you.
I bet that every one of their sales pitches are the same. They want to give you more information but they can’t. To get the bulk of the information you have to call a recorded message, provide your email address, or maybe even sign up with the program. The emails may also sound generic like they have just been copied and pasted. The person may not respond for a week. Take notes on every interaction you have with these people. They are your competition.
Now, do exactly the opposite of what your competition is doing.
Don’t jump right into your sales pitch. Instead, interact with your prospect. Get to know them and see if their interests match your business and sales style.
Don’t’ send your prospect to an automated phone recording. Usually, these phone records don’t give any information and make no sense to the average Joe. They simply drown on and on about what a business has done for someone else, not what it is going to do for me.
Don’t talk too much. Most people don’t want to listen to you for an hour or read a page long email. This can be saved for when you go in depth about your business.
Don’t ask yes or no questions. Yes or no questions are called closed-end questions and they do not give you the opportunity to learn anything about your prospect. Ask open-end questions instead. This gives the potential associate the opportunity to talk about themselves and most people like to do that. It also gives you an edge because you learn more about what they want, which you can use to tailor fit your solution to their needs and desires.
Be honest. Tell the prospect exactly what is in store for them. It is better to let them know now then to have them find out later.
Say thank you. Don’t ever forget your manners. Remember that you have just taken up precious time of that person’s day. You should thank them for listening even if they decide the business is not right for them. Kindness goes a long way. Maybe they will come back in the future.
Don’t, Don’t, Don’t, Don’t be overly pushy. This is probably the biggest mistake network marketers make. If a person is clearly ignoring you, don’t send them more emails. This will only frustrate them.
Just recently I had someone try to get me to start a very well known make-up party business. She first started by telling me that she wanted my opinion on their ‘marketing plan’. I didn’t give her a yes or no answer I only nodded my head because she was explaining other things to me. Later during this party she revealed that this ‘marketing plan’ was actually their business opportunity which I know I am not interested in. So for about five minutes she instead that I set up a meeting with her to discuss it. I told her no time and time gain but she would not take no for an answer. All of this was in front of my family and friends. She then said I proceeded to tell everyone that I had already agreed to and was now backing out. I corrected her by saying I was only listening to what she was telling me and at that point I did not even know what the ‘marketing plan’ actually was. She did apologize later for putting me on the spot but I couldn’t help but feel somewhat frustrated with her.
In short, take note of what your competition is doing and do exactly the opposite. You will appear different and unique and that is what is going to make the sale.
